Visionaries. Relentless. Local Experts. Leaders. Proven. Natural.

GMSHAY Architects

The Gunn Meyerhoff Shay team is compiled of creative and diverse individuals who come together to make buildings that are “of Savannah,” in a way that is innovative and progressive. Our open office layout is important for our collaborative design processes to result in thoughtful design.  It allows us to constantly interact and rely on each other to further the design in order to get the highest quality product.

Every member of GMShay's team is composed of skilled technical and critical thinkers.  All team members are proficient in the most current BIM softwares but will also be found sketching at their desks in order to fully develop thoughtful design ideas. Because of everyone’s diverse backgrounds, it is common for the office to get together to get everyone’s input on the direction of a project.  Gunn Meyerhoff Shay is truly a collaborative design studio.

Our Offices

The office of Gunn Meyerhoff Shay is located in the heart of midtown Savannah, in the historic Thomas Square Neighborhood. We have multiple work sharing and collaboration stations to make maximize our efforts to challenge each other to become better designers. Our building has a beautiful front porch and terrace space. It is abundantly wrapped with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the spaces with ample light during office hours. The team is surrounded by beautiful artwork and images of past projects.

Today, with the assistance of cutting-edge technology and a team of creative associates, the firm has positioned itself to continue that leadership for generations to come. Mr. Shay led the firm into the hospitality market, helping to create over 20 hotels in the National Landmark District. Hospitality is only a sector of GMShay's impact on Savannah's urban environment. Our team has continued the legacy of Eric Meyerhoff and Bob Gunn, paving the way for innovative, urban design, housing design, mixed-use development, institutional development and more.

Shay has also been the lead design architect and principal-in-charge on many Georgia projects, including, but not limited to the Savannah Cultural Arts Center, Historic One West Victory, Homewood Suites on River Street, Villa Marie Master Plan, Benedictine Military School Master Plan, River Street Place, Savannah Health Department, Mulberry Inn, and the recently completed Alida Hotel for Rockbridge Hotels.
