Since 1956, GMSHAY has had the privilege of helping shape the places that define Savannah.
Founded by Bob Gunn and Eric Meyerhoff, our firm was built on a simple but long-lasting belief: great architecture should serve people, respect place, and stand the test of time. That philosophy has guided every project, every client relationship, and every generation of leadership that has followed.
From the revitalization of River Street and City Market to the adaptive reuse of historic landmarks, the preservation of treasured community spaces, and the design of new destinations for living, learning, working, and gathering, GMSHAY has been proud to contribute to the city's remarkable story. Our founders helped establish principles of historic preservation that continue to influence Savannah's growth today, demonstrating that honoring the past and embracing the future are not competing ideals—they are complementary responsibilities.

Over seven decades, our work has expanded beyond preservation to include hospitality, education, healthcare, civic, commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects throughout the region. Whether restoring an irreplaceable landmark or designing a new space for the next generation, our goal has remained the same: to create architecture that belongs—architecture rooted in its community, responsive to its purpose, and enduring in its impact.
Our story has always been about people. We are grateful to the clients who have entrusted us with their visions, the communities that have welcomed our work, and the talented architects, designers, and professionals whose dedication has shaped GMSHAY across seven decades. Their creativity, collaboration, and commitment have made this milestone possible.
Our legacy has been thoughtfully documented in our commemorative history, preserving the stories, projects, and people who have shaped our firm since 1956. While we are proud of what those pages represent, our greatest achievement is not simply what we've built, but it's the relationships we've cultivated and the trust we've earned along the way.

Today, under the leadership of Patrick Shay and Jessica Hubbard, a new generation of architects and designers, GMSHAY continues to evolve while remaining grounded in the values established by Bob Gunn and Eric Meyerhoff. Innovation, sustainability, thoughtful preservation, and design excellence continue to guide our work as we respond to the changing needs of our clients and our communities.
Seventy years is more than a milestone. It is an opportunity to reflect on where we've been, celebrate those who brought us here, and look confidently toward what comes next.
The next chapter of GMSHAY is already being written: in the neighborhoods we help strengthen, the landmarks we preserve, the spaces we create, and the relationships we continue to build.
To our clients, colleagues, partners, friends, and the Savannah community: thank you for being part of our journey.
Here's to 70 years of honoring our past, designing for the present, and shaping the future.
